SPHEREx Selected for Phase A Study! The SPHEREx mission concept was among three Small Explorer (SMEX) mission concepts selected for further development. The SPHEREx team will submit the detailed concept study report to NASA on July 19, 2016.

Short for Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization and Ices Explorer, SPHEREx will launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
